Supreme Court headquarters once again surrounded by bars after attack
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) building was once again surrounded by bars this Thursday (14). The measure was taken by the court’s security team one day after explosions occurred in Praça dos Três Poderes.
The bars had been placed around the headquarters after the violent acts of January 8, 2023, but were removed by the Court in February this year, in a symbolic act that had the participation of the presidents of the STF, Luís Roberto Barroso, and the Senate , Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), in addition to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
On Wednesday (13), locksmith Francisco Wanderley tried to enter the STF headquarters building with explosives. When stopped by security guards, the accused set off the explosives and killed himself.

One of the ideas is to restrict the main entrance to Congress, called the Headgear, to authorities. Today, it is publicly accessible, although, after January 8, 2023, all entrances will have metal detectors and x-rays.
When asked by journalists about the removal of the barriers, Barroso denied that there had been a failure in security procedures.
“There was no security breach. This citizen blew himself up because he couldn’t get in. He was going to blow himself up in here. So security worked perfectly”, stated the minister.
The president of the STF also highlighted that the terrorist act will prevent the free movement of people through Praça dos Três Poderes.
“The square without bars was very beautiful, people were walking in the square again. Anywhere in the world, anyone who puts a bomb on their body to blow themselves up and kill someone is a terrorist. It is a shame that a terrorist act like this prevents the square from returning to the people as it should be”, he added.
Hacker suspected of threatening STF is arrested in SP; police investigate link with suicide bomber
The hacker was arrested in Jundiaí (SP), in the interior of São Paulo. He had already been monitored since 2022 and is suspected of having sent an email to the STF and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) with threats to both courts
Earlier, Barroso met with the acting governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão, and the executive secretary of the Public Security Secretariat, Alexandre Patury. The minister received reports about the investigations.
According to Patury, the return of the bars was one of the first measures suggested to protect the court after the explosions. According to the secretary, the use of facial recognition cameras and autonomous drones is being evaluated to reinforce security.
The secretary also guaranteed that the security protocol at Esplanada dos Ministérios is one of the strictest in Brazil.
“Everything that is organized, (police) intelligence can capture. Sporadic situations, where a person ends up committing some type of attack, make it a little more difficult”, he concluded.
