‘Tariff’ causes losses of R$700 million to the beef sector
Shipments before the “tariff” supported the sector’s trade balance. Until October, total exports of meat and other beef products to the United States grew 40.4% compared to the same period in 2024. The volume corresponds to sales of US$ 1.796 billion. According to Abrafrigo, the result “reflects the strong pace of exports prior to the ‘tariff'”.
Losses were offset by sales to other markets. Even with the positive aspect, the segment assesses that it would be possible to further increase the volume of exports if the United States’ “punitive tariffs” on Brazilian products had not been applied.
Sales present record volume this year. The data shows that, between January and October, the sector’s total exports provided revenue of US$ 14.655 billion (+ 36%) for a movement of 3,148 tons (+ 18%), record values. In 2024, Brazil exported 2,668 tons, with revenue of US$ 10.773 billion in the same period.
The US government relaxed the charges last night. Trump signed an executive order to eliminate the base tariff on imports of coffee, beef, tomatoes, bananas and other agricultural products. The determination eliminates the 10% charge on products, however, it maintains the 40% surcharge imposed on products originating in the Brazilian market.
