Motta rejects crisis with government and defends cuts that do not affect poorer

The First Chamber of the TCU decided, unanimously, to archive the representation that requested an investigation of the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), for allegedly hiring ghost employees.

The decision, taken on Tuesday (11) and published this Thursday (13), rejected the request from the Public Ministry of Accounts without asking the parliamentarian for clarification.

Deputy attorney Lucas Rocha Furtado had defended the opening of a special accounting process to investigate possible losses to the treasury. The MP pointed out that three advisors working in Motta’s office had routines that were incompatible with public service and that some of them held positions prohibited by legislation.

The government is still critical of the rapporteur’s text and says that Derrite’s opinion weakens the Federal Police, causing “budget fragmentation”

The case’s rapporteur, minister Jonathan de Jesus, stated that the representation was based only on reports and did not provide “minimum probative elements” that would justify the initiation of an investigation.

Former deputy and former party colleague of Motta, Jonathan assessed that “there were no concrete signs of irregularity”, a position that received unanimous support from the other members of the First Chamber.

The technical area of the TCU differed: it recommended requesting information from the President of the Chamber before deciding on the merits, an orientation that ended up being ignored.

When contacted at the time of the reports on the case, Motta only said that he “values strict compliance with employees’ obligations”, but did not provide proof of the activities carried out by the employees.

With the TCU’s decision, the case is closed within the sphere of external control, without formal investigation and without charging compensation.
