Telegram says he is ‘surprised’ with Vietnam’s blocking order
Vietnamese police and state media repeatedly warned people about possible crimes, fraud and data violations on Telegram channels and groups.
Telegram, which competes globally with other social media applications, such as WhatsApp and Facebook’s Wechat, was still available on Vietnam on Friday.
The Vietnam Communist Party in power maintains strong censorship of the media and tolerates little dissent. The country has repeatedly called for companies like Facebook, Google YouTube and Tiktok to coordinate with authorities the elimination of content considered “toxic”, including offensive, fake and anti -statural content.
Telegram is accused of not applying the requirement that social media monitor, remove and block information that violates the law, according to the document.
In addition, the document says that, according to police information, “many groups with tens of thousands of participants were created by the opposition and reactionary individuals who disclose documents against the government.”
The free use platform, with about 1 billion users worldwide, has been involved in controversy worldwide on security and data violation issues, including France, where its founder, Pavel Durov, was briefly detained last year.
