Tesla de Elon Musk warns that she is ‘exposed’ to Trump’s retaliation
Tesla said it is important to ensure that Trump government efforts to address trade issues “do not inadvertently harm US companies.”
The company said it was eager to avoid retaliation of the type it faced in previous commercial disputes, which resulted in increased tariffs on imported electric vehicles to countries subject to US fees.
“US exporters are inherently exposed to disproportionate impacts when other countries respond to US commercial actions,” Tesla said. “For example, commercial actions from the US has resulted in immediate reactions from target countries, including higher rates on imported electric vehicles for these countries.”
Trump is considering imposing significant tariffs on vehicles and parts manufactured around the world in early April. Tesla warned that, even with the aggressive location of the supply chain, “certain parts and components are difficult or impossible to obtain in the United States.”
The automaker added that companies “will benefit from a phase approach that will allow them to prepare properly and ensure that adequate compliance and supply chain measures are taken.”
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
