Tremor of magnitude 6.1 is recorded in Indonesia, says agency
The Indonesian weather agency estimated a slightly lower magnitude (6) and ruled out the risk of tsunami.
This archipelago is used to the earthquakes for its location in the so -called Pacific Fire Circle, a region of high seismic and volcanic activity that extends from Japan to southeast Asia.
A 6.2 magnitude tremor in January 2021 killed more than 100 people in Sulawesi and left thousands of homeless. In 2018, another earthquake followed by a tsunami caused more than 2,200 deaths in the same region.
Two months ago, the country remembered the 20th anniversary of the worst disaster in recent decades, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake followed by a Tsunami on December 26, 2004, which killed more than 170,000 people in Indonesia.
