Trump admits possible dialogue with Maduro after pressure in the Caribbean
Trump, however, did not give further details about the possibility of negotiations with Maduro. Washington accuses the Venezuelan of involvement in drug trafficking, an accusation rejected by the Caracas government.
US designates Venezuelan group as terrorists
Donald Trump’s government announced that it will designate a Venezuelan criminal group as terrorist. Washington also signaled that it will consider Nicolas Maduro, the country’s president, as the head of the cartel in question. The measure taken this Sunday was received by diplomats in the region as another element in the construction of a narrative to legitimize an attack against Venezuela.
Announcement was made on social media. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he will “designate the Cartel de los Soles as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).”
Led by the illegitimate Nicolás Maduro, the group has corrupted Venezuela’s government institutions and is responsible for terrorist violence perpetrated by and in conjunction with other designated FTOs, as well as drug trafficking into the United States and Europe Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State
In a broader statement, the State Department detailed the accusation and the alleged link between the cartel and the Venezuelan government. “Based in Venezuela, the Cartel de los Soles is led by Nicolás Maduro and other high-ranking individuals from Maduro’s illegitimate regime, who have corrupted Venezuela’s military, intelligence, legislature and judiciary,” he said.
