The White House did not directly comment on the use of makeup. Asked by journalists, spokesman Karoline Leavitt merely said that Trump “is a man of the people” who squeezes hands every day and maintains an “unwavering commitment.”
The team had already given similar justifications in the past. In February, when a bruise was recorded by a photographer, Leavitt attributed the brand to the chairman’s habit of squeezing hands daily.
The medical diagnosis was confirmed in July. According to the White House, Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that causes swelling in the legs and bruises on the right hand.
Trump’s doctor stated that the picture is benign. Sean Barbabella explained that venous insufficiency is common in people over 70 – the president has 79 – and stressed that exams have removed risk of thrombosis, arterial disease or heart problems.
