Trump and von der Leyen agreed
The leader was confident that negotiators “will come together soon” to try to resolve the issue.
Shortly before Trump’s statements, the commission chairman also commented on the extension of the break.
“Europe is willing to advance in negotiations quickly and decisively. To reach a good deal, we will need time until July 9,” said von der Leyen on the social network X.
“The European Union and the United States have the most important and close trade relations in the world,” he added.
On Friday, Donald Trump said he did not “seek a commercial agreement with the European Union and threatened to impose 50% overcrowders on imports from the bloc from June 1.
The European Commission, which negotiates trade agreements the name of the bloc, reacted immediately and requested respect from the United States.
