Trump has not officially taken a position on the issue so far. The republican’s most recent publications on the Truth social network, which he uses to express himself, deal with the country’s internal politics.

Signaling new moves comes just over a month after a Republican stated that he would authorize CIA secret operations in the Latin country. The CIA is considered the US’s “first line of defense”, offering information about other countries to the US government.

Tensions between Venezuela and the USA

Tensions between Washington and Caracas have intensified since Trump returned to the White House in January. This month, the Trump administration ordered the suspension of any diplomatic dialogue with Venezuela. The United States and Venezuela have not maintained diplomatic relations since Trump’s first term (2017-2021).

At all times, the Trump administration seeks to link the Maduro government to drug trafficking. The US president has already accused Maduro of commanding the Tren de Aragua gang, which his government designated a terrorist organization in February. The Republican also compared the deaths of thousands of Americans from overdoses to war deaths when trying to justify the intense military activity in the Caribbean.
