Hours before the event, he issued a statement signaling how he would use the event to his advantage.
“I look forward to joining the fans in New Orleans for Super Bowl Lix and cheering for two major teams – Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles,” he said in a statement permeated by political messages.
“The technicians, players and staff of the team that will be on the field tonight represent the best in professional football, but also personify the best in the American dream,” he said.

“Football is the most popular sport in the United States – for a good reason – it promotes a sense of national unity, bringing together families, friends and fans and strengthening communities,” he said. “This annual tradition transcends our differences and embodies our shared patriotic values of family, faith and freedom heroically defended by our members of military service, police and rescuers. We value their devotion to protect our great nation and greeted their altruistic service,” he added.
