Trump discusses Tiktok purchase with several people, and decision should come out in 30 days
Under the agreement being negotiated by the White House, Chinese Tiktok owner, Bytedance, would maintain a participation in the company, but data collection and software updates would be supervised by Oracle, which already provides the base of the web infrastructure of the web Tiktok, said one of the sources to Reuters.
However, in his comments to the flight reporters, Trump said he had not talked to Oracle’s Larry Ellison about the purchase of the application.
Asked if he was closing an agreement with Oracle and other investors to save Tiktok, Trump said: “No, not Oracle. Several people are talking to me, very substantial people, about buying it, and I will probably make that decision In the next 30 days. Congress gave 90 days. If we can save Tiktok, I think it would be a good thing.
The sources said the terms of any potential agreement with Oracle were fluid and would probably change. One source said the total scope of discussions has not yet been defined and may include US operations as well as other regions.
Others who are vying for the acquisition of Tiktok, including the investor group led by billionaire Frank McCourt and another involving Jimmy Donaldson, better known as Youtube star Mr. Beast, are not part of Oracle’s negotiation, one of the sources said.
According to the terms of the agreement, Oracle would be responsible for addressing national security issues. Tiktok initially closed an agreement with Oracle in 2022 to store US user information to relieve Washington’s concerns about Chinese government interference.
