Trump ends commercial negotiations with Canada and threatens to impose a new tariff
United States President Donald Trump announced the end of commercial negotiations with Canada and threatened the country with a neighbor with the implementation of a new tariff in his agreements.
What happened
Trump was annoyed by Canada’s decision to maintain the plan to charge taxes on US technology companies, which he claims to be a “attack” to the US. “Based on this outrageous tax, we are ending all discussions about trade with Canada, with immediate effect,” the Republican wrote on his own social network, Truth Social, this afternoon.
For Trump, Canada is “clearly copying” the European Union, which also intends to tax US digital services. For this reason, he pointed out, the US will impose new rates on Canadian goods “within the next few days.” He did not specify which product will be the new rate, nor the percentage of increase.
