USA sign new visa restrictions; tariff should climb

Reuters could not immediately establish how the rate would be administered. Lutnick said the visa would cost $ 100,000 a year for each of the three years of his duration, but the details “are still being considered.”

Some analysts have suggested that the rate may force companies to transfer some high -value work abroad, impairing the position of the United States in the strategic race for leadership in artificial intelligence with China.

“In the short term, Washington can gain a jackpot; in the long run, the US is in danger of taxing its innovative advantage by exchanging dynamism for myopic protectionism,” said Jeremy Goldman, an Emarketer analyst.

About two thirds of jobs guaranteed by the H-1B program are related to computer science, according to government data, but employers also use a visa to bring engineers, educators and health professionals.

India is responsible for most H-1B visas

India was the biggest beneficiary of H-1B visas last year, accounting for 71% of approved beneficiaries, while China was in a distant second place with 11.7%, according to government data.
