Trump will grant pardon to billionaire Joe Lewis, former owner of Tottenham
I’m happy that all this is behind us and that I can enjoy retirement and watch my family continue to build our business based on the quality and pursuit of excellence that have become our hallmark
Joe Lewis, in a statement released today
Briton was charged by the US Department of Justice with conspiracy and financial fraud. The businessman turned himself in to authorities last year after being accused of providing friends, private drivers and lovers with confidential information about publicly traded companies in which he had invested.
Lewis was also accused of lending money to people close to him to trade stocks based on inside information. The tips were typically given as payment or as a gift, prosecutors said at the time of the indictment. Details of the insider trading scheme were documented in a dossier published by a New York prosecutor in 2023.
After pleading guilty, Briton was ordered to pay a fine of US$5 million. His sentence also included serving three years on probation.
Official confirmation of the pardon from the US Department of Justice is expected this week. So far, the organization has not publicly commented on the presidential pardon.
