Trump’s head of diplomacy accuses Petro of having ‘lied’ about deportation
“As today’s actions demonstrate, we are steadfast in our commitment to ending illegal immigration and strengthening U.S. border security,” Rubio added.
This Sunday, Donald Trump’s government announced that it will suspend the issuance of visas to Colombians, after President Gustavo Petro announced that he will not receive flights with deportees due to the treatment that immigrants are receiving. The measure comes at a time when the Mexican government vetoed a flight and Brazil reported violations by the Americans.
Mass deportation was one of the main themes of Trump’s campaign and, in his first week, he announced the sending of more than 500 foreigners, in addition to the deployment of troops at the borders.
On Sunday morning, Petro announced that he would not accept the arrival of a flight with 160 people.
The Colombian also pointed out that he wants the issue to be addressed at the extraordinary meeting in the Assembly of Latin American states, which takes place on January 30th.
