União Brasil and PP launch federation and form greater political force for 2026
União Brasil and Progressives (PP) officialized on Tuesday (29) the creation of a party federation that is already born as the largest institutional force in the country. Baptized from Progressive Unionthe alliance unites two of Congress’s largest party structures and should be registered with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in the coming months, valid from the 2026 elections.
The new federation will bring together 109 federal deputies – forming the largest bench in the House – 14 senators, nearly 1,400 mayors and six governors. With these numbers, you will have access to the largest slice of the electoral fund and the party fund between the 29 parties registered in the TSE. According to data from 2024, the Progressive Union would be entitled to R $ 953.8 million in an electoral fund and R $ 197.6 million in a party fundsurpassing the PL in both rubrics.

In the first months, the presidency of the Federation will be shared among the senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) and Antonio de Rueda (Union Brazil), without defined hierarchy. From December, one of the two will be chosen as single president. Until then, the parties will focus on the preparation of the Alliance Statute, which still needs to be approved in internal conventions so that the registration is approved by the TSE.

The launch event, held at the Noble Hall of the Chamber of Deputies, was attended by several political leaders, including the presidents of the two houses-Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB) of the House, and David Alcolumbre (Union-AP) of the Senate. Also attending opposition leaders, such as Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) and PL national president, Valdemar Costa Neto.
One of the highlights of the event was the speech of the Governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), who, even in the face of the disregard of the federation’s position in 2026, reaffirmed his pre-candidacy for the presidency. “In 2026, we will win the elections in the country and we will climb the Planalto Palace ramp,” he said, to applause.

The definition of the support or not to a presidential candidacy in 2026 should also be debated in the coming months.
The strength of the progressive union on the electoral board
The Federation between União Brasil and PP represents an unprecedented step in the articulation of the center-right since redemocratization. In the medium term, the effectiveness of the progressive Union will depend on the ability of its leaders to harmonize regional interests and avoid internal disputes, especially in states where the two subtitles compete with each other. The construction of the statute and the definition of a stable governance will be determinant for the success of the arrangement.
