USA: Police recover diamond jewelry almost 1 month after thief swallow them
Florida police yesterday recovered the four diamond earrings valued at $ 4.4 million, which the thief swallowed upon being caught.
What happened
Theft took place on February 26, at a Tiffany & Co. unit in Orlando. At the time, Jaythan Gilder, 32, said he was in the store to choose jewelry at the request of a player from the Orlando Magic basketball team. He was taken to a special room to see the pieces. There, he immobilized the employees and left with the earrings and a ring (the latter, valued at $ 3.35 million, dropped on the escape).
Man was stopped on a highway and swallowed the earrings. Gilder went to Texas, but was stopped at Washington County, Oregon, for driving with the rear headlights. He was taken to custody, and the police report that “sneakily” swallowed the pairs of earrings.
