STF sets public hearing on “uberization” for December 9

The oral support of the lawyers of the coup plot’s criminal action, held between Tuesday and Wednesday at the Supreme Court (STF), had a series of artistic and historical references.

Most of them were made by Andrew Fernandes Farias, defender of former Defense Minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, who quoted from painter Vincent Van Gogh to poet Fernando Pessoa, as well as the literary character Alice.

Other lawyers, however, also made quotes, such as the Dreyfus case, which occurred in France in the nineteenth century, and to the French monarchs Louis XIV and Louis XVI.

Why will Bolsonaro be tried on the STF – and why wasn’t Lula?

Case Dreyfus, a historic landmark of injustice and prejudice, is quoted by defenses to question the impartiality of judgment

Check out the references used below:

Van gogh

Andrew Farias quoted the painting The Sower, 1888, by Downing painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890), to talk about the “Mission of the Lawyer”:

– Contemplating Van Gogh’s Sower, I like the lawyer, I realized that the lawyer’s mission is like that simple peasant, who walks through the field sowing peace, freedom, justice, hoping that it will fall into good land and bear fruit.

Alice

Farias also cited an excerpt from the book Alice through the mirror (1871), written by Lewis Carroll and continued by Alice in Wonderland (1865). He remembered a dialogue between the protagonist and the character Humpty Duptty, to talk about the meaning of the words:

– I remember Lewis Carroll, that famous passage from the dialogue between Alice and Humpty Duptty. Says Humptty Duptty: “When I use a word, it means exactly what I want it to mean, no more, no less.” The question, and here is wisdom, rationality, the logic represented by Alice, the question, pondered Alice, “is knowing if the Lord can do the words say different things.” The question, replied Humptty Duptty, “is knowing who sends it.”

Fernando Pessoa

Another reference was from the straight poem, from the Portuguese Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935). Farias alluded to the content of the first verses of the work: “I never knew who had taken it. All my acquaintances have been champions in everything.”

The quote was made when talking about Nogueira’s regret for the speech that the electoral transparency commission would be “for English to see.”

– One of the poems I like most of Fernando Pessoa, that poem in a straight line: “I never saw who had spoken a nonsense, all my friends are princes, demigods, everyone is always elegant.” And then he had a moment there of inelegance, of unkindness.

GONÇALVES DIAS

The Brazilian poet Gonçalves Dias (1823-1864) was also remembered by Nogueira’s lawyer, due to his poem I-Juca Pirama. In citing the verses, however, he exchanged the north of the original poem for the northeast, as the former minister was born in Ceará.

“There are some verses from Gonçalves days that I like a lot, that is the one in Juca Pirama, who says more or less, eminent minister, you correct me if I misunderstand:” Warriors, I was angry. And General Paulo Sérgio is a brave warrior from the Northeast.

Case Dreyfus

Lawyer Paulo Cunha Bueno, who defends former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), recalled the trial of Captain Alfred Dreyfus, which took place in 1894 in France. Dreyfus was unfairly accused of espionage to Germany and was convicted. His innocence was proven years later.

– Gentlemen ministers, do not, under any circumstances, create in this process a Brazilian and updated version of the emblematic case Dreyfus. Interestingly, also artillery captain. Interestingly, accused of crime against the homeland. Interestingly, condemned based on a draft apocryphal document. Interestingly, he had his defense exercise embarrassed at a given time.

French Revolution

The lawyer Demosthenes Torres, responsible for the defense of former Navy Commander Almir Garnier Santos, spoke the French Revolution by criticizing statements by federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP).

Boulos stated that King Louis XIV, who became known as King Sol, was killed in the guillotine. However, this occurred with his successor, Luis XVI, as part of the revolution.

– On Twitter, Boulos said, “A reminder to Bolsonaro, the dynasty of Louis XIV ended in the guillotine.” In addition to being a historical mistake, who ended in the guillotine was Louis XVI. And the dynasty did not start with Louis XIV. But finally, play played, it was a hate speech, alluding to the French Revolution.
