White House reveals $ 200 million project for Trump’s dreamed ballroom

The Trump government announced on Thursday (31) plans for a major renovation of the East Wing of the White House that would add a $ 200 million state party room to the historic building, making an old desire by President Donald Trump.

Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, said the addition of approximately 8,361 square meters would allow the government to host events to about 650 people. She said the project will start in September and should be completed before Trump’s end.

With just over six months in office, Trump has already taken steps to leave his mark in the White House a long time after leaving office. He began to run a plan to pave Rose Garden, one of the iconic places of the White House, and remodeled the oval hall with gold details consistent with sea-lag, his resort and residence in Florida. Last month, a new flag mast was installed at an event that included Trump asking workers about their migratory status.

Now Trump has his eyes turned to a huge expansion of the White House structure.

“President Trump is a born builder and has an extraordinary look at the details,” a statement from Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, read by Leavitt during the press conference. “The President and White House Trump are totally committed to working with appropriate organizations to preserve the special story of the White House while building a beautiful ballroom that can be appreciated by future governments and the Americans to come.”

Leavitt said Trump and other donors would pay for the reform. The government hired McCrery Architects and Clark Construction for the project.

In recent weeks, Trump has met with the White House team, the National Parks Service and the secret service to discuss the construction project, Leavitt said.

When the White House organizes major events, it usually sets up a big tent in the gardens that holds about 200 people, Leavitt explained. The new structure would allow the White House to receive hundreds of additional guests.

“The White House Ballroom will be substantially separated from the main building of the White House, but at the same time, its theme and architectural heritage will be almost identical,” Leavitt said.

During the reforms, many government officials will have to be relocated from the East Wing, Leavitt said. This includes those from the White House Military Office, visitors’ offices and the Melania Trump first lady’s office.
