Wolney Queiroz and Sergio Moro exchange charges in Congress on INSS fraud

INSS Fraud: Government base already considers the possibility of a CPI

Welfare Minister Wolney Queiroz and Senator Sergio Moro (Union-PR) starred in an exchange of accusations on Thursday (15) during a session in Congress. The clash began when Queiroz questioned Moro about the fraud at the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), which had occurred since 2020, during which time the former judge held the position of Minister of Justice and Public Security.

Wolney Queiroz pointed out that allegations of undue discounts on social security benefits were made to the Federal Police (PF) in 2020, while Moro was responsible for the portfolio. ‘Senator, it seems that you were Minister of Justice at this time. Did you do something to curb these frauds? ‘Asked Queiroz.

MORO REBATE

Senator Sergio Moro reacted promptly, stating that the complaints did not come to his knowledge while in office. ‘The facts were never informed to me how they were your excellence in a meeting in 2023,’ replied the former judge in a firm tone.

Wolney Queiroz insisted on Moro’s liability, noting that the then Minister of Justice should have accompanied the complaints. Moro countered, accusing the current government of trying to transfer responsibility for irregularities to previous management.

“It has not come to my knowledge. But your excellence learned and did nothing. You were the right arm of Carlos Lupi,” said the senator, referring to the former Minister of Social Security in the Lula administration.

Climbing

The climate warmed even more when Queiroz suggested that Moro, as Minister of Justice, had an obligation to be informed about the fraud. ‘Senator, I did not want to stay here in this chat with you with you, but as a minister of justice, you were much more obliged to know this than me,’ said the minister.

Moro, in turn, accused the current government of ‘trying to push the blame back’, claiming that Queiroz’s management called the Federal Police only in 2023, three years after the first complaints. ‘Your excellence wanted to accuse me of something now improperly. It was in the ministry where the fraud occurred. It was his government that called the police, ‘criticized the senator.

Understand the case

The clash between Moro and Queiroz occurs amid the controversy involving the scheme of undue discounts on the benefits of the INSS, detected since 2020. The investigation of the Federal Police (PF) pointed out that associations and unions registered beneficiaries without authorization, resulting in billionaire losses for retired and pensioners.

Queiroz, as Minister of Social Security, has sought to distance himself from criticism, noting that the current management would be correcting inherited problems. However, the exchange of accusations with Moro showed the political use of the issue, with the government trying to associate the failures with the period in which the former judge occupied the Ministry of Justice.

Moro, on the other hand, argues that he was not informed about the complaints at the time and accuses the government to use the issue to divert the focus from criticism. The dispute highlights the tension between allies and political opponents around the management of the social security system and the scandals involving the INSS.
