largest forest fire of the year in the US completes a month
According to the Inciweb Government website, which monitors fires across the country, the so-called Dragon Bravo, described as a “mega-isch”, was only controlled by 13% and is likely to expand in the coming days due to the extremely dry and hot climate in Arizona.
This is already the largest forest fire of the year in the United States, with over 49,700 hectares burned since Monday.
Grand Canyon National Park, visited annually by about 4.5 million American and foreign tourists, closed its north edge (North Rim) from mid -July 15th.
The Grand Canyon South Border, the favorite of most visitors, remains accessible.
The park authorities, where a huge column of smoke hangs over the huge reddish gorge carved by the Colorado River, evacuated about 500 tourists and employees in July.
The Dragon Bravo fire left no victims. But, according to the authorities, it destroyed between 50 and 80 structures on the north edge, including the pop -up hut of the Grand Canyon, popular among tourists, rebuilt in the 1930s, after being consumed by a fire and declared historical monument in 1987.
