USA say they will revoke Gustavo Petro visa for 'incendiary actions'

Donald Trump’s government has announced that it will revoke the visa of Colombian president Gustavo Petro.

What happened

  • “Reckless and incendiary actions”. The US State Department published yesterday in X that Petro’s visa will be revoked “due to its reckless and incendiary actions.”
  • Petro participated in protest in the United States. Hours earlier, in a pro-Palestinian act, the Colombian president asked US soldiers to disobey orders from Donald Trump.
  • President Colombian spoke in New York using a megaphone. “I ask all US army soldiers not to point their weapons to people. Disobey Trump’s orders. Obey the orders of humanity.”
  • US State Department cited the protest in his announcement. “Earlier today, Colombian President Gustavo Petro positioned himself on a New York Street and urged the American soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence.”
  • Petro had already criticized Trump during a UN speech. Last Tuesday (23), the Colombian called for the opening of a criminal case against Donald Trump for giving the order to attack vessels of alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean, where, according to Petro, “poor young people without weapons to defend himself.”
