PGR defends resumption of investigation into possible Bolsonaro interference in the PF

The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, defended this Wednesday the resumption of an investigation that investigates whether former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) interfered in the Federal Police (PF) during his government.

Gonet wants the PF to clarify whether there is a connection with another investigation, into an alleged parallel structure set up at the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin).

This investigation, the first opened against Bolsonaro after becoming president, had been on hold since May 2024, when the rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, questioned whether Gonet agreed with a request for archiving presented during the previous administration of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

The attorney general defended that the investigation should return to the PF, which should compare the elements collected in this investigation with the investigation by Abin Paralela.

The objective is to analyze statements by former Justice Minister Sergio Moro, now a senator, that Bolsonaro wanted to have access to confidential information.
