Venezuela asked the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for help to stop the “aggression” of the United States, which has been carrying out an anti-drug operation in the Caribbean since August, according to a letter from President Nicolás Maduro released this Sunday (30).

The United States’ mobilization includes ships, fighters, thousands of troops and the largest aircraft carrier in the world. Venezuela claims that the maneuvers are not aimed at combating drug trafficking, but rather at overthrowing the Maduro government.

“I hope to count on your best efforts to contribute to stopping this aggression that is taking place with increasing force and seriously threatening the balance of the international energy market”, states Maduro’s letter read by vice-president Delcy Rodríguez during a virtual OPEC ministerial committee.
