Bolsonaro evolves in a 'satisfactory way', with 'discreet improvement', doctor tells the STF

Jair Bolsonaro (PL) had improvement in the pain and movements in his right shoulder in the last physiotherapy sessions, but he still has impairment in the lower part of his left lung. The information is contained in two medical reports sent this Friday, 10th, to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), rapporteur of the case, by the professionals who accompany the former president at home, in Brasília.

According to cardiologist Brasil Caiado, Bolsonaro is recovering well from the bacterial pneumonia he recently had. His blood pressure is under control, but he still feels fatigue and tiredness, with little improvement. Last week, the former president had just one episode of hiccups, which was brief and did not require extra medication.

The former president undergoes physical therapy three times a week and cardiorespiratory rehabilitation six times a week. The cardiologist reported that strength exercises for the legs were included, with the aim of improving balance and reducing the risk of falls.

Physiotherapist Kleber Antônio Caiado de Freitas reported the evolution in two sessions. On April 6, part of the exercises were done, but shoulder movements could not be performed because of pain and limited movement.

On April 9, Bolsonaro was able to use elastic resistance to activate his shoulder muscles and reported improved pain and joint mobility. A bout of hiccups, however, generated increased cervical tension and pain in the dorsal region, which required a new needling session, myofascial release and laser therapy.

The physiotherapist assessed the response to treatment as positive, but highlighted that Bolsonaro still has movement limitations and other clinical problems. The orthopedist who visited the former president this week continued to use painkillers at night for his right shoulder.

Bolsonaro is serving a sentence of 27 years and three months in prison for leading an attempted coup d’état. On March 13, he was hospitalized with bilateral bacterial bronchopneumonia. The situation led Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, to grant humanitarian house arrest for 90 days, after the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) expressed support for the measure. The reports sent this Friday are part of the clinical monitoring planned during this period.
