The current management of the Federal Police reviewed the conclusion of the investigation that had found undue interference by the then President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro in the corporation and concluded, for the second time, that there is no evidence of the commission of crimes in the case.

The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes had ordered the reopening of the case, which had been opened after Sergio Moro’s resignation from the Ministry of Justice, when he said he had been pressured by the president to change command positions in the corporation. One of the reasons would be Bolsonaro’s fear of the advancement of the fake news investigation against his allies. The PF under Bolsonaro concluded that there was no undue interference and the then Attorney General of the Republic Augusto Aras had requested the investigation be closed.

Now, under the Lula government, the PF has carried out a review of the evidence collected and reiterated the conclusion that there is no evidence to justify a criminal charge in the investigation.

“It is worth mentioning that IPL 2021.0031208 -CCINT/CGCINT/DIP/PF investigated a specific object, which, from the perspective of the steps taken contemporaneously with the facts, did not reveal information capable of justifying criminal charges”, wrote delegate Carlos Henrique Pinheiro de Melo, linked to the Police Intelligence Directorate (DIP).

The delegate mentions, for example, that the PF requested sharing of evidence from the fake news inquiry with Minister Alexandre de Moraes that indicated the occurrence of undue interference, but that the minister had responded that there was no evidence of this in that inquiry.

The conclusion also says that any acts of interference detected in the reporting inquiries by Minister Alexandre de Moraes can be investigated directly in these investigation procedures.

After receiving this complementary report, Moraes sent the process for analysis by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet. He may indicate new steps to be taken or request the case to be definitively closed.
