Lula emphasizes that good inflation and employment data are still not enough for the people

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva argued that despite the positive numbers linked to the job market and inflation, the issue is not well evaluated by the population. For the head of the Executive, this is because, despite being favorable, they are still seen as little for the people after two terms of the PT member who brought these benefits to Brazilians. This assessment was made during an interview with the Brazilian podcast Calma Urgente! still in Barcelona, traveling to Europe.

“Whoever governs has to take into account the existence of a Judiciary, the correlation of forces of the National Congress, the organization capacity of society for you to build things”, he mentioned.

For the president, from the point of view of achievements achieved, the current three years and four months of the current administration presented a much greater result than the first and second terms. “The difference is that at that time it was the first time, okay? So you had nothing. Now, we had to win back to do the same thing, because they had destroyed what we did”, he pointed out.

After mentioning several areas that, according to the president, had to be rebuilt, and gains for the population, such as record wages and inflation accumulated in four years at the lowest level, Lula concluded: “All of this, we realize, is not felt because this is little compared to the people’s needs. I know that the people need more. I know that they need to earn more.”

World Social Forum

During the interview, Lula da Silva assessed that the left made mistakes at the World Social Forum. “At the Porto Alegre meeting, we made some mistakes with the World Social Forum. First, Porto Alegre should have been established as a central place to do that, because it became a symbolic thing”, he argued.

According to the Chief Executive, when the headquarters undergoes changes, it will begin to have problems. Another problem identified by Lula is that the Social Forum did not have a goal. “I remember that the management of the Forum was upset with me, because I said that the Forum looked more like a shopping mall”, he recalled.

For the president, events like this need to continue. “You hold a forum, you decide on just one thing as a goal for that year, until the next forum”, he compared. The Chief Executive believes that, in this way, there is more engagement among participants. “We had a meeting, the forum ended, everyone went back to their own world, the following year again at the forum. Again they came back, did nothing. So it failed”, he claimed.
