Alcolumbre indicates that voting for Messias for the STF should be held in 2026

The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), signaled this Thursday, 4th, that the vote on the nomination of the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, for the Federal Supreme Court should be held in 2026.

Alcolumbre was asked if he would only make the nomination next year. After the senator’s silence, journalists asked if this would mean that this year only the Budget would be voted on, to which he replied: “This year only the Budget”.

Initially, Messias’ hearing was scheduled for December 10, but it was postponed due to the lack of a formal message from the nomination, which upset Alcolumbre. This week, the president of the Senate Constitution and Justice Committee, Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), stated that the hearing should be held until next year.

The government leader in Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), also defended that the vote be carried out in 2026. “It will be a debate for next year. I think it is pacified”, said the PT member.

Congress session and monocratic decisions

Alcolumbre stated that he should schedule a new session of Congress for next Thursday, the 11th, to analyze vetoes. According to him, the agenda is yet to be defined.

He also said that he will talk to the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), about the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution to limit monocratic decisions by Judiciary ministers. “I only know that she passed the CCJ. I’m going to talk to President Hugo”, he said.
