Braga Netto will be the only defendant of the coup plot to be interrogated by video conferencing

Arrested since the end of last year, General Walter Braga Netto will be the only defendant investigated for participation in the crucial nucleus of the coup plot to be interrogated by video conferencing. The military testimony should be the last of the eight that will be heard this week. Other accused will provide clarifications in person at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) from this Monday (06/09).

Former member of the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Braga Netto has been detained since December in a unit in the Military Village, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, by determination of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case in the Supreme. He was arrested after the conclusion of the coup plot investigation by the Federal Police, who said the general tried to obtain “information about the collaboration agreement” by Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid.

In his award-winning denunciation, Cid also stated that Braga Netto distributed, inside a box of wine, money to finance the “yellow-green dagger” plan, which predicted Moraes, President Lula and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.

The decision to keep the detained military man has been contested by the defense, which claims that there is no reason for him to remain in prison for more than five months. Requests of release have been denied by Moraes so far. The magistrate also rejected, last Thursday, a request for the postponement of the interrogations of the defendants of the criminal plot criminal action.

The other defendants and their lawyers will be simultaneously in the courtroom of the first class of the Court, where the trials of the coup plot have been taking place. The interrogations will begin with the testimony of CID, which will be heard first for collaborating through the award -winning plea agreement.

Following, they will be heard in alphabetical order: Alexandre Ramagem, former director of ABIN and federal deputy; Almir Garnier Santos, former Navy Commander; Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice and former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District (DF); Augusto Heleno, former head of the Institutional Security Office; Jair Bolsonaro; Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, former Minister of Defense; and Walter Braga Netto, former minister of the Civil House and Defense, as well as candidate for deputy on the Bolsonaro plate in 2022.

The lines will be broadcast live on TV Justice and the YouTube channel of the Supreme, starting scheduled for 2 pm on Monday. If the interrogations are not completed on the first day, another four sessions were scheduled for the following dates: 06/10 at 9am; 06/11 at 8am; 12/06 at 9am; and 06/13 at 9am.
