Brazil does not require names of ‘epstein files’

There is a theory related to the case about an alleged “Epstein list” in which the financier kept the names of his customers, which includes influential personalities. American President Donald Trump promised supporters that, if elected, he would disclose the archives of the case.

Gilmar said “commercial negotiations can be done all the time. But trying to include the country’s institutional role and the independence of the judiciary makes no sense at all.”

The court dean also expressed support for colleague Alexandre de Moraes, who was the target of sanctions from the US government for acting as a rapporteur in the process in which Bolsonaro is a defendant for attempted coup.

Gilmar said the story will recognize the role of Moraes in defense of democracy. “If today we are in a democratic environment, we owe a lot to Minister Alexandre. I support unquestionably, and I know that the story will do him justice,” he said.

US measures include the taxation of 50% to Brazilian products, the revocation of visas from Brazilian authorities in the US and barriers to the financial movements of Moraes, through the magnitsky law.

The trial of Bolsonaro and others involved in an attempted coup d’état is scheduled to start on September 2, in the first class of the Supreme Court. Gilmar Mendes does not integrate the board.
