Brazil will seek suspension of all tariffs and sees Trump giving in to inflation
One of the points highlighted by Brazil is that the Americans have a positive balance of trade with the country and that, therefore, the logic of tariffs does not hold water.
According to the Facto News revealed, the tariff managed to reduce the deficit in the United States’ trade balance with the world by 23% between July and August. The hole, which was US$78.2 billion (R$416.6 billion at the current exchange rate), fell to US$59.6 billion in this period. This occurred thanks to a significant drop in imports of foreign goods.
If, with most countries, the USA continues to have a deficit, the result with Brazil is different — and the American advantage has been growing after the tariffs.
Brazil guaranteed the US one of the largest positive trade balances in the first seven months of the Trump administration: official data show that, between January and August 2024, the American surplus with the country was US$4.1 billion. But, in the same period of 2025, the trade balance registered a positive balance of US$6 billion in favor of the USA.
In 2025, only three other economies in the world provided the US with a more favorable balance than Brazil. They are: the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Hong Kong, with these last two economies serving as ports to redistribute American goods throughout the regions where they are located.
The publication of official American economic statistics is delayed, and data from January to August were only released this week due to the government shutdown. The longest strike in the country’s history, lasting 43 days, was reversed last week.
