At the same moment, an alarm rang throughout the ship with the announcement of “man overboard”. To the BBC, a passenger on the trip, Lesney-Anne Kelly, said that she was having breakfast with her mother when the captain informed her that the vehicle would have to remain in place until the guard authorized it to leave.

Searches were temporarily suspended last night due to darkness. “The mood was quite somber last night, especially after the announcement that the search was ending,” the passenger told the British publication.

Ship participated in the initial rescue operation, but docked in Santa Cruz during the early hours of the morning. The guards reported that the search for the victim, which was resumed today, is taking place by sea and by air — with boats, helicopters and specialized aircraft.

Cruzeiro would have started on November 21st. He had departed Tenerife and was returning to the same location when the accident occurred.

The company responsible for the trip has not yet publicly commented on the case. According to its website, the Marella Explores 2 ship is exclusively for adults and has 907 cabins, while the average cost of a trip like the one the British one took is 1,100 euros (around R$6,000 at current prices).
