Chamber rejects Senate changes and sends defense insurance MP to presidential sanction
The Chamber of Deputies rejected this Thursday the changes promoted by the Senate in the so-called defense insurance MP, published by the government with the intention of tightening the rules for granting the benefit granted to artisanal fishermen, and the text now goes to presidential sanction, reported the Câmara de Notícias Agency.
The provisional measure, which had been analyzed the day before by the Senate, attempts to avoid fraud by establishing new registration and identification conditions, said Agência Câmara, in addition to authorizing the settlement of outstanding installments in 2026 if the beneficiary meets the criteria required by law.

Also according to the agency, expenses for the benefit — R$7.9 billion planned for 2026, with the exception of late payments — will be outside the limit stipulated in the law that deals with defense insurance, which takes into account the previous year’s budget allocation plus a correction allowed by the fiscal framework.
