Chinese astronauts barbecue in space
Chinese astronauts held the first barbecue in space yesterday to welcome compatriots arriving at the Chinese Space Station, named Tiangong (“Heavenly Palace”, in Portuguese).
In a video published by state television channel CCTV, astronauts roast chicken wings in an electric oven, with the pieces of meat floating due to the absence of gravity. “The moment the wings entered the oven, everyone here was filled with anxiety,” summarizes astronaut Zhang Hongzhang.
“Gourmet food here!” says Wu Fei as he takes the chicken out of the oven. Next, the images show the men eating the chicken, with a piece for each one. “How can they taste so good?” Chen Zhongrui marvels. The video also shows that beef steaks were roasted.
