Congress resumes MP analysis that increases wages from the military

The provisional measure that provides for increased wages of the military of the Armed Forces will be voted by the National Congress Commission at the meeting next Tuesday, 8. The group is made up of members of the Senate and the House and the proposal is authored by the Federal Deputy and Army Division General, Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ).

The Pazuello Report provides that the readjustment be done in two stages: 4.5% in April 2025 and 4.5% more in January 2026.

The author estimates that the government will have a budget impact of $ 3 billion in the first year and $ 5.3 billion in the second, “which will require planning to ensure the balance of public accounts,” says Deputy General Pazuello.

The MP readjusts the welds, which are the base salaries paid to the members of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. The justification is to “improve career attractiveness and encourage the permanence of qualified professionals”, according to the description of the text

The Joint Commission is chaired by Senator and Military Hamilton Mourão (Republicans-RS) and is deputy federal deputy Carlos Zarattini (PT-SP). The proposal amends Law 13.954/2019 and received 23 amendments of parliamentarians.

The first amendment, presented by Senator Efraim Filho (Union-PB), proposes to include in the MP the exemption from the payment of income tax and earnings of any kind, in addition to the exemption of the presentation of the annual adjustment declaration, to military police and military firefighters.

The justification for the inclusion of the amendment in the MP, according to Senator Efraim Filho, is that “it is fair to the proposed readjustment for the military of the Armed Forces, but it is necessary to extend the gains to the rest of the Brazilian military. Police and military firefighters are not achieved by the original text,” says the document.

The provisional measure was issued on March 28 and was extended on May 27 by the Senate President, David Alcolumbre (Union-AP), which extended the deadline for Congress for another 60 days.

It is expected that, after the vote on the commission, the text will continue to appreciate the plenary of the House of Representatives and the Senate. If not approved until the deadline, the MP loses validity.
