Haddad announces candidacy for SP government and promises to boost Lula's campaign

Former Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad, cited three former ministers of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as possibilities to form his ticket for the São Paulo government: Marina Silva, Simone Tebet and Márcio França.

Haddad said that he has spoken with his former colleagues from Esplanada and that there is no “calendar problem” in defining number 2 on the ticket. Haddad said that he has already spoken with França and in the next few days, he should meet with Marina Silva and Simone Tebet:

“We have several good names, we have four former ministers of President Lula available to compose the majority ticket and that is a good thing, it is not a problem. We have good names, but I will do this after talking to all of them. From each one’s perspective and I haven’t had that chance yet, I spoke to Márcio, Simone is arriving this week in São Paulo from her rest, I respected her rest. I just talked to Marina and agreed to meet with her this week. Things will move forward naturally and we don’t have no calendar problems, we have time and we will use the time in the best way possible”, said Haddad at the end of the 8th PT National Congress in Brasília.

Tickets to the Senate

The São Paulo puzzle also involves the composition of the Senate tickets, where PT hopes to elect at least one name. In addition to the former ministers, the former mayor of Araraquara Marcelo Barbieri (PDT) and the former president of the Brazilian Rural Society Teresa Vendramini remain in the running.

Haddad came to Brasília to participate in the last day of the PT national meeting and spoke at the request of Lula, who did not attend the event. The former minister told the activists that they must “work day and night, from Monday to Monday, until October, for the president’s re-election” and criticized Flavio Bolsonaro (PL), Lula’s main opponent:

— We have no right to rest until we see this reality confirmed at the polls — he stated — We cannot in any way consider the hypothesis of a setback in October, Lula’s re-election is an imperative for our future. Lula will compete with Bolsonaro, with the son of Jair Bolsonaro, a family that has only brought chaos to this country. They sell themselves as anti-system and have been implementing the worst politics in this country for 30 years, from the cracks to the genocide of the pandemic, they are always on the side of destruction. and we are the antidote to that, we are the answer to that – he stated.
