In the USA, Ramagem's wife says she experiences “psychological torture” to justify leave

Roraima state attorney Rebeca Ramagem stated this Friday (9), in a post on social media, that the request for medical leave from the position was motivated by “real, concrete, emotional and psychological impacts” resulting from the situation experienced by her family in recent months. According to her, the removal was not a personal choice, but a “clinical necessity”, indicated by doctors in the face of what she classified as an “inhumane and cruel” context.

Rebeca currently lives in the United States, where she accompanies her husband, former federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL), who is on the run from justice. The public position comes one day after it was revealed that she requested a 60-day medical leave from her role as prosecutor, starting December 22, after an extended period of vacation outside the country.

Gonet is also expected to comment on Senator Damares Alves’ request to inspect the former president’s cell

“Any real mother, who is following her daughters’ struggle to reestablish normality after being the target of an inhumane and cruel act, is deeply impacted,” she said. “At this moment, it would be irresponsible to carry out my activities efficiently, as if nothing were happening. Prudence requires a pause.”

In her statement, Rebeca says that she worked regularly throughout 2025 and that she went on vacation exercising a legal right. She reports, however, that even after fulfilling her duties, her salary was suspended, her 13th salary was unpaid and her bank accounts were blocked by decision of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes.

“We are talking about food funds. Funds that guarantee the subsistence not only of me, but of my daughters”, he declared.

According to her, the combination of a search warrant, blocking of financial resources and legal uncertainties created an environment of “psychological torture” for the family.

According to the government of Roraima, the medical certificate was received by the Department of Human Resources on December 24th and forwarded to the Division of Medical Expertise and Occupational Safety of the Secretariat of Strategic Management and Administration. Rebeca had been on vacation since November, with successive requests for extension, until December 19th. The Judiciary went into recess during the period and resumed activities on January 6th.

In parallel, the prosecutor is trying to reverse the blocking of accounts at the STF. In a writ of mandamus distributed to Minister André Mendonça, she states that she was not previously notified of the decision and maintains that the measure prevented her from receiving a salary, creating, according to the defense, a situation of “food insecurity” for her and her two daughters, aged 14 and 7.

At this Friday’s demonstration, Rebeca also stated that the leave is temporary and highlighted that she can perform her duties teleworking, a practice she says she has adopted since 2016.

“The processes are digital. The higher courts operate in fully online systems”, he said. “As soon as I am medically discharged, I will fully resume my activities.”

Since 2020, assigned to the Coordination of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Roraima in Brasília, Rebeca works in actions that are being processed in the higher courts. At the end of the statement, he stated that his situation goes beyond administrative discussion.

“What is at stake here is not just a position, it is the protection of human dignity, mental health and basic rights”, he concluded.
