Leakage of names in ba shakes people with HIV: ‘Many hide for fear’
The leakage of 245 names of people living with HIV in the Official Gazette of Feira de Santana (BA) caused a strong emotional shaking in patients, many of them maintaining the diagnosis confidentially for fear of prejudice.
According to the president of the Association of Family and Friends of People living with HIV-Aids de Feira, Josefa Farias dos Anjos, the patients “are stunned” with the publication because they will be discovered. “Many of them hide from family and friends because they are afraid of rejection,” he said.
In addition to the list of names of people living with HIV, two others were released, containing data from patients with fibromyalgia and sickle cell anemia, who also had the benefit suspended. In total, more than 600 people had information improperly exposed.
