Randolfe Rodrigues: PEC, PLP and PL of the tax package must be voted on this year

The leader of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government in the National Congress, senator Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), stated this Thursday, 9th, that the president will face a challenge to choose a “suitable” replacement for minister Luís Roberto Barroso, who announced his departure from the Federal Supreme Court (STF) during today’s plenary session.

“I think we have a lot of good names in place. It’s named after the (former) president (of the Senate) Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), it’s named after the attorney general of the Union, minister (Jorge) Messias”, declared Randolfe.

“The president will talk. The choice is a unilateral act by the president of the Republic. The president of the Senate (Davi Alcolumbre) should talk to the president of the Republic in the next few hours, and the president will find a name worthy of Barroso”, continued Randolfe.

Lula says it is “a matter of days” for the rich to “pay the taxes they deserve”

“Yesterday was sad because part of the National Congress voted against the taxation that we wanted to impose on the billionaires of this country”, said the president during the inauguration of the factory in Bahia

Furthermore, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues highlighted the role that Luís Roberto Barroso played in the STF. “Barroso was a public man who fulfilled his duties with enormous love for Brazil, dedication and zeal for Justice and Brazilians,” he stated.

Randolfe also made a joke by mentioning former Senate president Rodrigo Pacheco. “I believe it will be a brief decision. The president will find someone equal to Luís Roberto Barroso. President Pacheco is taller”, he joked.

Barroso, 67 years old, says goodbye to the Supreme Court despite still having the right to remain in office until the age of 75, the age limit established by the 1988 Constitution. The name indicated by Lula will need to be approved after a hearing in the Federal Senate, as required by constitutional rite.
