Lula participates in SUS action and defends ‘one month joining’ to reduce queues

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva participated on Saturday (13), in Brasilia, in a SUS action at the University Hospital of Brasilia (HUB) and defended the “one month joining” as a strategy to reduce the queues of consultations, exams and surgeries in the public health system.

Lula participated in an event about a task force of care for the program now has specialists, from the Ministry of Health.

“We need to map which things are most accumulated and do more efforts, not once every three months, but maybe we haven’t been a whole month of joint effort,” Lula said.

Lula also argued that doctors gain extra time as a motivation to reduce queues.

“We pay extra time, but that’s the next, we will have to do more. While we don’t have all the doctors we need in all hospitals, our university staff, our hospitals will have to do more,” Lula said on Saturday.

This Saturday’s task force is an initiative, which is part of the EBSERH project in action – now has specialists, and takes place in the 45 federal university hospitals of the EBSERH network throughout Brazil. The goal is to expand specialized care and reduce waiting time in the public health network.

More than 29,000 calls are scheduled through the Unified Health System (SUS), 1,900 elective surgeries, 4,500 specialized consultations and 22,700 specialized exams and therapies. The care will be focused on various specialties, such as cardiology, orthopedics, ophthalmology and women’s health.
