A 26-year-old girl died after falling from the seventh floor of a hotel in Brazil. The episode occurred during the early hours of Tuesday, November 3, in an establishment in the city of San Luis, capital of the state of Maranhão, and was recorded by the security cameras of the place.

The victim was identified as Renata Rebeca Negrão Saldanha dos Santos. According to the reconstruction of the Civil Police, she was with her boyfriend in one of the hallways of the Rio Poty Hotel when she sat on a window frame and leaned her back on an aluminum structure.

The support suddenly gave way and the young woman fell into the void until hitting a canopy located at the entrance to the establishment. Although he received assistance after the blow, the injuries he suffered were fatal.

The video of the moment before the fall and the boyfriend’s statement

The images from the security cameras were essential to reconstruct what happened. In the recording you can see the couple walking down the hallway on the seventh floor and, later, Renata sitting by the window. The sequence also shows the moments after the fall.

Leonardo Augusto Pinto França, the victim’s partner, was taken to a police station to give a statement. However, after analyzing the images and listening to his version of the events, the investigators ruled out, for the moment, that he had participated in the young woman’s death. For this reason, he was released and was not under suspicion.

According to the information released about the case, both had consumed alcoholic beverages before the episode. During his statement, the man acknowledged that they had been drinking, although he stated that he did not remember the exact moment in which the fall occurred.

The couple was from the state of Pará and had arrived in San Luis on October 28 to participate in a poker championship. His return to the province of origin was scheduled for the same Tuesday that the tragedy occurred.

They investigate why the aluminum structure gave way

Although the main hypothesis of the Civil Police points to an accidental death, the authorities keep the investigation open to determine what caused the detachment of the structure on which Renata leaned.

The Public Security Secretariat of Maranhão reported that specialists carried out expert reports on the hotel facilities and examined the components of the window. The objective is to establish if the support had defects, if there were maintenance problems or if there was some other circumstance that explains why it did not withstand the weight of the young woman.

For its part, the administration of the Hotel Rio Poty expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the victim. He also expressed his willingness to collaborate with the authorities and provide the necessary information to clarify the circumstances of the accident.

The investigation must now determine whether the detachment responded to a structural failure or some other factor related to the safety conditions of the facility.
