Rings to measure glucose are prohibited by Anvisa
A measure published by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) yesterday prohibited marketing, distribution, manufacturing, importation, manipulation, propaganda and the use of rings that promise, without any scientific basis, measuring glucose, oxygen and heart activity without the need for needle bites to remove the blood.
According to endocrinologist Marcio Krakauer, coordinator of the Department of Technology, Digital Health and Innovation of SBD (Brazilian Society of Diabetes), no needle is needed to measure oxygenation and heartbeat. But for glucose measurement, the equipment is necessary, as the analysis depends on blood or interstitium (a liquid below the skin).
Anvisa points out that the products have no proven effectiveness or sanitary registration. According to the agency, products without registration or regularization do not offer quality guarantee, safety or effectiveness and may pose serious health risks. Therefore, they should not be used.
