Silveira: businesspeople will be punished by the CPF for infractions in the fuel sector

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced tax and regulatory measures to minimize the impacts of the war in the Middle East. Among coercive measures, Silveira informed that businesspeople who unduly increase fuel prices will be punished personally and their companies will be banned.

According to Silveira, the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) will have an increase in its power with the provisional measure that will be published by the government.

The regulatory body may also ban companies, in addition to just imposing fines.

“Now, not only the agent with his CNPJ, but also with his CPF, those businesspeople who break the laws of the popular economy are now punished. The ANP now has the power, for example, to ban establishments. Previously it only had the right to fine”, said the minister.

Silveira and the Ministers of Finance, Dario Durigan, and Planning, Bruno Moretti, are holding a press conference at Palácio do Planalto this Monday, after meeting with the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), at Palácio da Alvorada.
