Trump uses Thanksgiving message in the US to attack immigrants
According to American authorities, the attack in Washington this Wednesday was committed by a 29-year-old Afghan. Identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, he arrived in the country in 2021 as part of the “Operation Allies Welcome” program, created by former Democratic President Joe Biden.
The program enabled thousands of Afghans who helped US forces to obtain US residency permits. CIA Director John Ratcliffe said the suspect was part of a Washington-backed commando that fought the Taliban in Afghanistan.
‘Worrying’ countries
Trump has stated that he intends to expel foreigners who are considered “a public burden, security risk or ‘incompatible’ with Western civilization” and that “these goals are aimed at significantly reducing illegal and problem populations.”
Shortly after the attack on the National Guard, Trump announced “a complete reevaluation” of permanent residence visas granted to citizens of 19 countries “considered to be of concern”, such as Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran and Venezuela, among others. Brazil is not on the list.
