The “Madleen” vessel, intercepted yesterday morning while traveling towards Gaza, took 12 activists on board, which they said carrying humanitarian supplies to the region at war. According to the Israeli government, the aid transported was derived.

What happened

Boat carried “children’s formula, food, medicine and basic humanity” to the Gaza Strip. Information was released by FCC (Flotilha da Liberdade coalition in English), an activist group that coordinates the mission. Because of the size of the vessel, however, the amount of humanitarian aid is symbolic.

The group’s main objective was to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in the region. “What makes a small humanitarian boat so frightening for Israeli occupation? According to Francesca Albanese (UN Special Rapporteur for Occupied Palestinians): It’s our humanity. It’s the challenge of all. It’s our collective power to break the siege,” FCC said on Instagram.
