Zema says that in Japan involved in a case similar to Toffoli ‘he would have committed suicide’
The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), stated this Thursday, 12th, that, if a case similar to the one involving the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Dias Toffoli had occurred in Japan, the “involved person would have committed suicide”. The statement was made in a video published on social media.
Zema compared the situation to the episode involving Japan’s then Minister of Agriculture, Toshikatsu Matsuoka, whose name was associated with a political scandal and died in 2007.

Councilor Lucas Pavanato (PL-SP) stated this Thursday, 12th, that the minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Dias Toffoli, is “a shame for all Brazilians”
“If something similar to this had happened in Japan, I think that the person involved would have committed suicide there. If it had happened in Europe, where there is shame on their face, the person would have resigned. In Japan there is honor and here we have neither honor nor shame on our face and people continue to act there,” said the governor in a post on the social network X.
Opportunity with security!
This Thursday, Toffoli confirmed, in a note, that he joined the corporate structure of the company Maridt, which was one of the controllers of the Tayayá resort, in Paraná. In 2021, Maridt sold its stake in the project to a fund linked to banker Daniel Vorcaro, accused of leading a fraud scheme investigated under the minister’s own report. Toffoli states that he does not have a friendly relationship with Vorcaro nor has he received money from the businessman.
The statement was made in a note released after the Federal Police (PF) requested, on Wednesday, 11, the minister’s suspicion in the case involving Banco Master, after finding mention of the magistrate’s name on Vorcaro’s cell phone.
In addition to mentions of Toffoli’s name in messages located on Vorcaro’s device, the PF also identified conversations between the banker and the minister. The information was reported by the UOL website and confirmed to Estadão by people with access to the results of the investigation.
The minister’s office confirmed, in a statement, that the PF submitted a request for a declaration of suspicion to remove him from the case and stated that the request is based on “inclusions”. Vorcaro’s defense, in turn, said that there was a “selective leak of information”.
