Moraes triggers Itamaraty in an inquiry against Eduardo Bolsonaro for attack on sovereignty
Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) determined that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicate which Brazilian diplomats in the United States can provide clarification in the investigation that investigates the performance of licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) against authorities of the Brazilian State.
The request is contained in the order signed by Moraes on Monday (26), which also determined to the Federal Police the formal opening of the investigation, from the request of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). The objective is to ascertain whether the actions of the parliamentarian abroad constitute a attack on national sovereignty.

According to the decision, Itamaraty should point out which authorities are able to provide information about Eduardo Bolsonaro’s movements in the United States, where he started to act in campaigns against members of the Brazilian judiciary and the Brazilian Public Prosecutor, with the main focus on Moraes himself.
The investigation is inserted in the context of the criminal action that investigates the attempted coup d’état, both under the rapporteur of Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The deputy, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, is accused of articulating measures to embarrass or punish Brazilian authorities, while performing abroad as a victim of political persecution.
In the PGR’s request, Attorney General Paulo Gonet argues that Eduardo tries to discredit and destabilize the operation of the Federal Supreme Court, the Federal Police and the Summit of the Federal Prosecutor, which represents, in the document’s words, a direct threat to the “normality of the Democratic Rule of Law”.
Since March, the parliamentarian has been licensed to his mandate and remains in the United States, where he promotes meetings with figures linked to the American right and seeks support for international sanctions against Alexandre de Moraes – a movement that already motivated reaction from the Brazilian government, which treats the episode as a possible violation of national sovereignty.
Moraes, in determining the opening of the inquiry, requested the testimony of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who publicly admitted to being funding the permanence of the child abroad. The investigation seeks to identify if there is a coordinated strategy to interfere with the ongoing processes in Brazil and embarrass authorities based on external pressures.
