Senate approves prohibition of athletes and influencers in bets ads
The Senate approved on Wednesday (28) a bill that vetoes the participation of athletes, artists and influencers in advertising campaigns of sports betting websites and applications, the so-called “Bets”.
The text, reported by Senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ), now goes to analysis by the Chamber of Deputies.

The proposal was approved in a symbolic vote in the plenary, after receiving a green light from the Sports Commission and being included in the agenda through urgent request.
The original project provided for the total ban on betting advertising, but the final text chose to restrict vetoes and establish specific rules for the sector.
Among the determinations, participation in advertisements of any individual is prohibited – including authorities, communicators and digital influencers. The only exception is former athletes who have retired for at least five years.
Also vetoed pieces that present the game as an alternative income, investment or solution to financial problems.
Betting advertising will also have time restrictions.
Ads will only be able to air between 7:30 pm and 0h on open TV, subscription, social networks and streaming platforms. On the radio, the allowed times are from 9am to 11am and from 17h to 19h30.
Content focused on children, such as mascots, drawings and animations – even those generated by artificial intelligence – are also prohibited.
Another relevant measure is the requirement that companies in the sector will display warning warnings about betting risks.
As with tobacco products, the pieces will need to clearly include the message: “Bets cause dependence and damage to you and your family.”
In addition, the display of Bets brands in minors is vetoed, and clubs will not be able to sell this type of clothing to children and adolescents.
