Brazilian refuses to be deported after being detained by Israel on boat
Four of those detainees on the boat have already been sent to their countries of residence, including Greta Thunberg activist. The Israeli government published a photo of the young woman on a plane, which would make a scale to France before heading to Sweden, her home country. In addition to her, they were placed on Baptiste Andre and Omar Faiad aircraft from France and Sergio Toribio from Spain.
Boat was intercepted at sea and arrived yesterday in Israel
Thiago Ávila was arrested by Israel as he tried to pierce the blockade to the Gaza Strip aboard the Madleen boat, intercepted in international waters. The vessel was part of Freedom Flotilla Coalition and carried humanitarian aid with rice and medicines. Along with Thiago were Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and 10 other passengers. The Brazilian government required the immediate release of the crew.
Before the blockade, Thiago published videos on his Instagram profile, which has over 780,000 followers, denouncing possible Israeli attack. In one of the messages, he said, “We are about to be attacked by the most cruel and odious army of the world.” In another recording, activated after the interruption of contact, he said, “If you are watching this video, it means that I was detained or kidnapped by Israel.”
The activist’s wife, Lara, released public appeal for her release. “We need your help, which cover parliamentarians, Itamaraty, the Brazilian government,” he said. She and Thiago are parents of Teresa, 1 year old.
